Her music is a vibrant fusion of jazz, folk, soul, interweaved with poetry and spoken word. On various collaborations and album narratives, she also explores Nu-RnB & dance music fused with electronic sounds, showcasing her versatile artistry. She shines through with purposeful spunk, a pure & angelic voice with a great sense of clarity & articulation that heals & resonates with deep intentionality.
Pilani has had a prolific solo-music career spanning 14 Years since quitting corporate to pursue her dreams. She has independently produced and released 7 albums, whose storytelling narratives are in a league of their own. Each album takes listeners on an extraordinary & original journey through her own lived experience. Pilani's musical journey spans from the melodic "Journey of a Heart" (2012) to the empowering "Warrior of Light" (2016), the nostalgic "Folklore Chapter 1" (2019), and the reflective "Lockdown Lovestory" (2022). She then collaborated with AfroNautiq on "Konke" (2023), exploring her artistic journey, and delved deeper into ancestral wisdom with "Folklore Chapter 2: Ekuseni" (2023). Her latest album, "Nay’Indaba," with French band Marthe, reflects on South Africa's history and 30 years of freedom, addressing social ills and celebrating resilience. Pilani won a SAMA for "Folklore Chapter 1" and launched the Folklore Festival in 2022.

Driven by passion, Pilani has collaborated with Caged Bird Legacy LLC, interpreting Maya Angelou's poetry in "Hopes Springing High, Still I Rise." Her music has been featured in Netflix's "The Brave Ones," and she collaborated with Blick Bassy on "Bikutsi 3000." Pilani has toured extensively across Africa, Europe, and the US, performing at prestigious festivals like Love Supreme, Jazz a Vienne, and Standard Bank Joy of Jazz. Her creative projects have also earned her two Loeries awards, further solidifying her trajectory as an innovative force to be reckoned with. Pilani Bubu's mission is to leave an indelible mark on the world.
